On the 16th of September, the members of the Rotary Club of Amman Petra District 2450 had met for the meeting no. 8 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman.
The event took place in the presence of the Club President, Irfan Ruhi, Club Secretary Yousef Nusseir, and 15 members and guests, including the speaker of the day, the General Manager and founder of Discover Jordan Tours, Laura Rihani.
The presentation entitled “Tourism: A boon to the unstable economy?” brought an overview of the current state of the tourism market in Jordan, creating a debate on the problems faced and possible efforts to achieve improvements in the area.
In speech, Laura mention the country’s potential as a tourist destination and how the number of tourists has increased over the years.
In 1995, Jordan received 1 million tourists. In 2010 this number increased to more than 4 million, moving about 3 billion dollars per year, what represents more than 30% of the Jordanian economy. It also brings benefits such as job creation, preservation of heritages, cultural and social development etc.
“Tourism is a business and when tourism strives everyone thrives,” says the speaker. At the end, there was space for debate on the subject that had great participation of the guests.
